Life Story

Yaron Zamir was born on October 27, 1960 Kibbutz Eir Dor to Rama and Yehoshua, members of the American garin that founded the kibbutz in Emek Yizrael. Yaron was the youngest child with two older sisters and an older brother. Yaron attended elementary and high school on the kibbutz. He was an exemplary kibbutznik and an outstanding soldier. He received his 'wings' of recognition of excellence in the commando unit of the Golani Brigade just six days before his death in the battle for Beaufort on the first day of the First Lebanon War - Shalom Hagalil - June 6, 1982. In the same battle, his commander, Guni Harnik, was also killed. Shortly before his death, Yaron composed a poem entitled ('Enough Killing') protesting Israel's involvement in that country. He was buried in Kibbutz Ein Dor. *** The information on this page is part of the 'Yizkor' commemoration project by the Ministry of Defense / the 'La'ad' website by the National Insurance Institute, in memory of the fallen.
