David Zbar was born on August 4, 1943 in Ottowa, Canada to Moshe and Rayna. He received a Jewish education in the city of his birth and afterwards attended medical school and teacher's seminary in Ottawa.
His first visit to Israel was in 1967 when, during the Six Day War, he volunteered to translate for American volunteers throughout the country. He stayed for four months before returning to Canada. In 1968 he again came to Israel, working some six months for TWA.
In August 1970 David made aliya and became a senior transport clerk for El Al That same year he married Naomi The couple had two children - Michal and Yael. David was drafted into the IDF in January 1970 and served in the Engineering Corps in the Golan Heights. He took part in the difficulty fighting of the Yom Kippur War.
On October 21, 1974 David was killed while on active Reserve duty in the Golan Heights. He was buried in the military cemetery in Netanya.
