Nehemiah Wisotzky was born on August 1, 1929 in Jerusalem to Avner and Esther. His father, Avner, was a member of the American Jewish Brigade in World War I who remained in Israel. Nehemiah studied in the Gymnasia Haivrit. He was an accomplished pianist who composed his first pieces at the age 9 and was active in the Scouts Movement. During vacations, he and friends would help set up new settlements in the Negev. At the age of 16 he put aside the piano and dedicated himself to the country and his people.
On April 24, 1948 he was sent to aid in the capture of the British fortress of Nebi Yusha in the Galilee. there he fell and there he was buried.
