Life Story

Yaron Ungar was born on August 19, 1970, in New York to Meir and Yehudit while his father was completing his Ph.D. at Columbia University. The family made aliyah when Yaron was an infant, and he grew up in Petach Tikva, attending the religious school Netzach Yisrael. In 1985, Yaron and his family moved to Shaarei Tikva in the Shomron, where he studied at Yeshivat Nachalim. After high school, he studied at Hesder Yeshivat Hagolan in Chispin and served in the Golani Brigade. On September 13, 1993, the day the Oslo Agreement was signed, Yaron married Efrat Dasberg. They moved to Kiryat Arba and had two children, Dvir and Yishai. Yaron taught at the local yeshiva high school. On June 9, 1996, Yaron and his wife were murdered in a Hamas drive-by shooting near Beth Shemesh. They were buried side by side in the Kfar Etzion cemetery. ** The information on this page is part of the 'Yizkor' commemoration project by the Ministry of Defense / the 'La'ad' website by the National Insurance Institute, in memory of the fallen.
