Sgt. Merom Moshe Fisher's Israeli-born mother, Dorit, went to live in the US with her parents as a child. Seventeen years later she returned to Israel and eventually all her children inherited her American citizenship. Merom, 19, who served in the Golani Brigade, was on his way home for weekend leave when his commander left him a phone message and, barely reaching home, he was summoned back. He was killed on April 5, 2002 during an exchange of gunfire in Jenin during Operation Defensive Shield. He is survived by his parents, Giora and Dorit, and two brothers.
