Life Story

Chaim (William 'Willy') Fisher was born on August 28, 1923 in Proskorov, Podolia, Russia to Chaim-Zev and Frieda. His father died two months before his birth and he is named after him. In 1924 the family moved to Canada, and established itself in Winnipeg. In 1942 Willy was drafted into the RCAF and served as a navigator overseas until the end of the war when he returned to Canada. At the end of July 1948 he left for Israel by way of England. He served in the IAF until October 25, 1948 when he was killed in the crash of a Dakota near Yesodot (Tel Nof) together with Wilfred Cantor, Fred Stevenson and Jerome Littman. He was buried in the military cemetery in Rehovot.
