Life Story

Rabbi Hillel Eliahu Lieberman was born on May 5, 1964 in New York City to Rabbi Zevulun and Bracha. Hillel made aliya in 1984 and married Yael. They built their home in Elon Moreh and had seven children. He was a founder and a teacher of the Yeshiva 'Od Yosef Chai' in the tomb of Joseph in Nablus, and gave daily Torah lessons to the students at the shrine. On Shabbat morning, October 7, 2000, he heard a rumor that the IDF had left Joseph's Tomb and that it had been desecrated by the Arabs. He ran to the Tomb and was murdered by Arab terrorists on the way. He was buried in the Yitzhar cemetery alongside two friends who had been killed in 1998. *** The information on this page is part of the 'Yizkor' commemoration project by the Ministry of Defense / the 'La'ad' website by the National Insurance Institute, in memory of the fallen.
