Noam Adin Rechter Levy was born on August 4, 1988 in Montreal, Canada to Rabbi David and Sharon. He was the fourth of five children. He added Rechter to his name to pay homage to his paternal grandmother whose family perished in the Holocaust.
In 1996 the family made aliya from Kitchener, Ontario and settled in Mitzpe Netofa in the Galilee. Noam attended elementary school at Kibbutz Lavi and then studied at the Yeshiva High School in Tiberias. He loved sports and established a basketball club for the children of his town who looked up to him as a role model.
After his induction into the IDF in March 2007, Noam became a medic in the Duchifat Batallion of the Kfir Brigade. On May 7, 2009 he was on patrol in Bir Zeit, north of Ramallah, when - during a confrontation with Arab rioters - Noam was killed by a bullet accidentally discharged from the rifle of the deputy company commander during a struggle with a rioter. He was buried in the cemetery of Mitzpe Netofa, and is survived by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
