Esh Kodesh Gilmore was born on December 21, 1974 in Mevo Modi'in to Reuven and Zehava, among the founders of the 'Carlebach' moshav. Zehava, who made aliya from New Jersey in 1970, married Reuven, who made aliya in 1973 from Cleveland, OH, in 1974. Esh Kodesh, named after a book by a Warsaw Ghetto Rabbi, was the eldest of six children.
In 1997 Esh Kodesh married Inbal and they have a daughter called Talya. On October 30, 2000, Gilmore, a third-year computer programming student, was working as a security guard at the National Insurance Institute in East Jerusalem when an terrorist entered the building and shot him to death, also wounding a second guard.
