David Thurston was born on July 22, 1953 in New York to Robert Thurston and Rosa Eichnor. At the age of seven and a half, David made aliya and grew up with his mother and grandmother in Holon.
He was drafted into the IDF and in November 1971 became a Air Force medic, taking part in the Yom Kippur War. During his service, he underwent a parachuting course, a combat medic course and an aviation training course. He served in the 669 unit he loved very much. In 1974, immediately after his release, he began studying law at Tel Aviv University. After qualifying as a lawyer, he opened a law firm in Tel Aviv with his friend, Adv. Rafael Gross.
With the start of the First Lebanon War, David was called up to evacuate wounded soldiers. On June 6, 1982, the helicopter he was in was downed over Nabatiya in Lebanon and David was killed. He left his wife and mother and was buried in the military cemetery in Rishon LeZion.
