Imri Tel-Oren was born on July 4, 1963 in Jerusalem to Chanoch and Sharon, both flutists with the Jerusalem Orchestra. Imri grew up in Motza on the outskirts of Jerusalem and attended the regional school Harei Yehuda, near Kiryat Anavim.
He was a clarinet player in the Jerusalem Youth Orchestra and participated in an Orchestra tour of Europe. On March 11, 1978 following a family visit in the Galilee, the Tel-Oren family was driving towards Jerusalem in their private car. Near the Zichron Yaakov Junction one of a band of terrorists who captured a bus, fired at the Tel-Oren car, killing Imri and wounding other family members. Imri was 14 years old.
