At the end of his three years of service, on Yom Kippur, October 6, 2003, David volunteered to replace a soldier who wanted to pray. In the ambush, David discovered a squad of snipers stationed on the Lebanese side and skipped to a nearby bush for better visibility. However, the terrorists spotted him and opened fire on him.
