Yisrael (Izzy) Zamalloa Tobelem was born on January 22, 1982, in Lima, Peru, to Walter and Jeanette. In 1984, the family (including a younger sister, Heidi) made aliya and settled in Jerusalem, where Izzy grew up until the family moved to Miami, FL in 1991.
In 2004, Izzy decided to return to Israel and settled in Eilat. On Monday, January 29, 2007, a suicide bomber exploded the bomb he was carrying in the entrance to the Lachamim bakery in Eilat, killing the three workers in the shop, including Izzy. At the request of his family, Izzy was buried in Miami.
