Life Story

Zechariah Haber, son of Miriam and Aaron, made aliya from New Jersey when he was 8 years old. He was the oldest of four brothers and learned in Yeshivat Har Etzion in Alon Shvut. As part of the hesder program, he enlisted in the Tank Corps and became a tank commander. after finishing his army service, he returned to yeshiva for a year and a half. He then enrolled at Hebrew University's Faculty of Agriculture in Rehovot, where he earned a Bachelors and Masters degree (with honors) in plant Science. While in school, he met and fell in love with an olah chadasha, Talia Friedman, and they married and had three beautiful children. On October 8th, Zechariah was called up to miluim and he served until he was killed in Gaza on January 16th. At the time of his death, he was on the verge of finishing his PhD at Tel Aviv University in Plant Science and Food Security, focusing on growing wheat in drought conditions. Zechariah is sorely missed. Zechariah was buried on Har Herzl and is survived by his wife Talia and three children, his parents and three brothers.
