Life Story

Yakir Yedidya Schenkolevski was killed on Dec 4 2023 while in his tank in battle in Gaza. He was 21 years old, and was serving in the IDF's Yeshivah-Army Hesder Program in Yerucham. Yakir's family live in Migdal Oz in Gush Etzion. He is survived by a sister and three brothers who were also drafted at the outbreak of the war, but were released from army service after Yakir's death. Yakir was charming, helpful and very studious. His grandmother, Sarah Goodman, shared that at the funeral there was a speaker from the army, from the yeshiva and from the Kibbutz. These three had a common message. All spoke of Yakir's devotion to learning Torah, to the IDF and to the Kibbutz. The army gave him a certificate as an outstanding soldier. All his family members spoke as well. Yakir was very loved by all and will be greatly missed. He had a few young nephews and nieces who also enjoyed his attention when he played with them.
