Life Story

Sergeant First Class Yakir Hexter, age 26, was killed in battle in the Khan Yunis area of Gaza in 2023. Born and raised in Jerusalem, Yakir was the beloved son of Chaim and Debbie Hexter and the youngest in his family. He served as a reservist in the IDF’s Combat Engineers and, from the outbreak of war in October 2023, fought with a reserve Paratroop unit. Known for his courage, humility, and deep sense of responsibility, Yakir was admired by his comrades and loved by his family and friends. Beyond his military service, he was a runner, cyclist, and active community volunteer. He participated in the ALYN Wheels of Love ride as a one-day rider and ran the Jerusalem Marathon on behalf of ALYN Hospital. He had planned to ride alongside his father in the 2023 Wheels of Love event, which was canceled due to the war. In 2024, the ride was dedicated to his memory. Yakir was remembered for his strength, kindness, integrity, and unique blend of seriousness and joy. His life of service, both in the army and in his community, left a deep mark on all who knew him. He is deeply mourned by his family, friends, and fellow soldiers, and his memory is a lasting inspiration.
