Life Story

Yaakov 'Kobi' Mandell was born in Jerusalem on June 14, 1987 to Rabbi Seth and Sherri. In 1989 the Mandell family returned to the US where Seth was a Rabbi in Silver Spring, MD. Seven years later the family made aliya and lived in Efrat for three years before moving to Tekoa. On May 8, 2001 Kobi and his friend Yosef Ishran skipped school in order to go on an outing in Wadi Tekoa. They were attacked by Arab terrorists who stoned them to death and mutilated their bodies. They were buried in the cemetery in Kfar Etzion. His parents have established the Koby Mandell Foundation to help bereaved families cope with the loss of a loved one caused by terror. **The information on this page is part of the “Yizkor” commemoration project by the Ministry of Defense/the ‘La’ad’ website by the National Insurance Institute, in memory of the fallen.
