Yonadav Haim Hirshfeld was born on May 26, 1989 to Zemach Yehuda and Elisheva. His maternal grandparents were Rabbi David and Etta Shapiro of Milwaukee’s Congregation Anshe Sfard.
The family, including 13 children, lived on Kochav Hashachar. Yonadav completed his studies at Yeshiva L'Zeirim and began studying at Yeshivat Merkaz Harav.
On March 6, 2008 a terrorist entered Yeshivat Merkaz Harav in Jerusalem and began shooting. Among the eight students killed was Yonadav, then 19 years old.
