Sara Blaustein was born in New York on April 5, 1948. For many years she was involved in causes and organizations that support Israel including managing the New York office of the Jerusalem Reclamation Project/Ateret Cohanim. In August 2000, she fulfilled her lifelong dream and made aliyah together with her husband Norman and their 13-year-old daughter Atara to Efrat in Gush Ezion. On May 29, 2001 Sara, her husband and her son Sam, were driving to Jerusalem from Efrat when terrorists opened fire on their car. Sara was killed, another passenger in the car, Esther Alwan was also killed, Sam was shot and has since recovered from his wounds, and the other passengers were injured from shrapnel and shattered glass. Sara is buried in the Kfar Etzion cemetery in Gush Ezion.
At the time of her death she was survived by her three adult children, Adena, Sam, Yoni, and 13 year old Atara, her husband Norman, her mother Rebecca (since passed away), her brother David, sister Tema, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
