Life Story

Michael Ben-Yitzhak, formerly Isaacs, was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on April 13, 1935. He made aliyah in 1970 after completing his degree at Oxford University in England. He had worked as a stockbroker in London before aliyah. In Israel he married Rebekah and the two raised their children, Boaz and Hillel, in Jerusalem. On Friday, July 4, 1975, Michael and his wife were out shopping when explosives concealed under an abandoned refrigerator detonated in Jerusalem’s crowded Zion Square, killing them instantly. The Israel Museum Ben-Yitzhak Award for the illustration of a children's book is presented annually in memory of Rifka and Michael Ben-Yitzhak. *** The information on this page is part of the 'Yizkor' commemoration project by the Ministry of Defense / the 'La'ad' website by the National Insurance Institute, in memory of the fallen.
