Hallel Yaffa Ariel was a 13-year-old girl from Kiryat Arba who was tragically murdered in her home on the morning of June 30, 2016, by a terrorist who broke in while she was still asleep after a dance performance in Jerusalem with her HaRikud troupe. Hallel was a brilliant student with dreams of becoming a doctor and was known for her vibrant, joyful personality described by her grandmother as “the kind of child everyone wants to be around.” As the eldest child of U.S.-born Rena Aranoff Ariel, Hallel was also an American citizen. Her funeral was attended by hundreds, reflecting the deep impact she had on her community.
