Sergeant First Class (res.) Gavriel Bloom, age 27, from Beit Shemesh, was killed in an explosion near a strategic tunnel in the central Gaza Strip. The explosion was caused by the sudden detonation of explosive material. Gavriel served as a combat engineering soldier in the IDF’s 36th Division.
Born to Jennifer and David Bloom, who were among the early residents of Ramat Beit Shemesh, Gavriel grew up in a warm family alongside his five siblings. He attended Yeshivat Amit Nachshon, whose rabbis later joined the mayor of Beit Shemesh in eulogizing him.
A few years before his death, Gavriel moved to Beersheba to study mechanical engineering at the Sami Shamoon College of Engineering. It was there that he met Miri Lipovski, the love of his life. Together they dreamed of building a future, planning to marry and start a family in Beersheba.
Gavriel was laid to rest on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. He is remembered by his family, friends, and community as a dedicated soldier, a beloved son and brother, and a man full of promise whose life ended far too soon.
