Fern Shawna Rykiss, a seventeen-year-old Canadian, completed an eight-week World Zionist Federation Youth and Hechalutz program at Kibbutz Ein Tzurim. Fern had spent much of her senior year fundraising for this trip. She was killed in a terrorist attack on July 6, 1989 on bus #405 and was among 14 people killed when an Arab terrorist grabbed hold of the steering wheel while traveling from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The bus fell more than 400 feet into a ravine.
