Fern Shawna Rykiss, a seventeen-year-old Canadian woman completed an eight-week World Zionist Federation Youth and Hechaultz program at Kibbutz Ein Tzurim. Fern had spent much of her senior year fundraising for this trip. She was killed in a terrorist attack on July 6,1999 on bus #405 and was among 14 people killed when a man grabbed hold on the steering wheel while traveling from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The bus fell more than 400 feet into a ravine.
