Bertin Tita was born in 1930 in Baghdad, Iraq to Rachel and Yoseph Matityahu. Bertin, who married Ephraim and had three children (Sandra, Ezra and Shoshana), made aliya with her family in 1953. They lived first in Tel Aviv and then in Ramat Gan, working in the fashion industry. In 1981 the family moved to Dallas, Texas where they continued to work in the fashion industry.
Upon retiring, in the early 1990s, Bertin and her husband returned to Israel and made their home in Jerusalem. Bertin devoted her time to assisting needy families.
On June 11, 2003 a suicide bomber disguised as a chareidi Jew boarded the 14A bus and blew himself up near the Davidka Square, killing 17 people, including Bertin. She left her husband, three children, eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
