Life Story

Reverend Angel Berganzo was the leader of a group of Puerto Ricans, who were making a once-in-a-lifetime pilgrimage to the Holy Land. When they arrived at Lod airport on May 30, 1972 they were attacked by three members of the Japanese Red Army, recruited by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and 17 of the group were among the 26 people killed. Rev. Berganzo was shot in the leg and then critically wounded by a grenade. He was hospitalized in Israel for three months before he was moved to a hospital in Puerto Rico, where he died from his injuries. He was married to Lydia and had several children.
