Sergeant Israel Eliyahu Suissa, age 21, was killed in a motorcycle accident on Route 4 on March 5, 2024. Born in Canada to a large Lubavitch family, Israel immigrated to Israel with his parents and ten siblings. Two years before his death, his family returned to Canada, but Israel chose to remain in Israel to enlist in the IDF. He served as a lone soldier in the Paratroopers Brigade’s reconnaissance unit and fought in Gaza from the start of the war. Known for his bravery, optimism, and contagious joy, he brought warmth and good humor to those around him. Israel lived in Ra’anana in a lone soldiers’ apartment and was beloved by his commanders, comrades, and friends, who remembered his courage, dedication, and the positive atmosphere he created. His funeral was attended by thousands, who came to honor his memory. Israel is mourned by his parents, siblings, friends, and fellow soldiers, and his legacy as a devoted brother, loyal friend, and courageous soldier continues to inspire.
