Maj. (res.) Moshe Yedidya Leiter, 39, the company commander of Brigade 551's Battalion 697, was killed in battle in the northern Gaza Strip on November 10. He died from the explosion of a booby-trapped tunnel shaft next to a mosque in Gaza’s Beit Hanoun neighborhood.
He was born in the historic town of Hebron and grew up in Eli. Leiter, a reservist, served as a paramedic and was due to start a training placement at a hospital as part of his studies to become a doctor. Alongside his medical studies, Leiter had been involved in a program dedicated to training ultra-Orthodox men in computer science, and preparing them to draft to the IDF’s prestigious Unit 8200.
He is survived by his wife Tzippy and six children, the youngest of whom is under three months old, and his parents, Dr. Yechiel Michael Leiter and Chana.
