Life Story

Benjamin Aharon Hillman was born on March 10, 1979, in London to Danny and Judy Hillman. The family made aliyah in 1983 and settled in Ra’anana. Benji attended Ariel religious primary school and later studied at Kiryat Yaakov Herzog in Kfar Saba and Midrashiat Noam in Pardes Hanna. After high school, he spent a year at Bnei David Mechina in Eli before enlisting in the IDF in 1998. He served in the elite Egoz commando unit of the Golani Brigade, where he was recognized as an outstanding soldier and rose through the ranks to become a company commander. Benji also represented the IDF abroad, including in the US and Canada. In June 2006, he married Ayala Borger and soon after joined his unit in the Second Lebanon War. He was killed in action on July 20, 2006, in Moran a-Ras and buried in Ra’anana. His legacy lives on through HaBayit shel Benji, a home and support center for lone soldiers established in his memory by his family and friends. **The information on this page is part of the “Yizkor” commemoration project by the Ministry of Defense/the ‘La’ad’ website by the National Insurance Institute, in memory of the fallen.
