Eyal, aged 28, was the son of Rivka (Riki) and Shmaya Berkowitz. He married Michal Broyer a year before his death.
Eyal was a second-year medical student at Hebrew University. Modest and unassuming, he was also a gifted artist.
When he was appointed leader of his unit, he confided to his father that he didn't feel comfortable commanding his friends, but if he had to be assertive, he was able to do so and fulfilled that position as well, fully and with tact.
Eyal was buried at Har Herzl. He is survived by his wife, parents, and maternal grandparents Leah (from St. Louis) and Abe Abramowitz.
