A pilot, like his father, Thom was due for a vacation to see friends abroad at the outbreak of the 2nd Lebanon war. Instead, he reported back to his unit. He was killed when his helicopter gunship crashed in northern Israel on July 22, 2006, for unknown reasons. Thom was the first soldier to be buried in the Military Cemetery in Caesarea, where he is survived by his parents and sisters Amit and Ori.
