Life Story

Yaakov Naftali Fraenkel, aged 16, was born in Jerusalem to Rachelle and Avi Fraenkel of Nof Ayalon and held citizenship in both Israel and the United States through his maternal grandparents who immigrated from Brooklyn in the 1950s. A student at Mekor Chaim Yeshiva, Naftali loved sports, especially basketball, and had a passion for music. On June 12, 2014, while hitchhiking home from Gush Etzion with his friends Gilad Shaer and Eyal Yifrah, he was kidnapped by Palestinian terrorists. Despite a nationwide search and widespread prayers, their bodies were discovered near Hevron eighteen days later. They were buried side by side in Modi'in on July 1. Naftali is survived by his parents, grandparents, and six siblings.
