Gilad Desheh was born on July 10, 1952, in the Galil. His parents were members of Kibbutz Yiftah, later moving to Kibbutz Maagan Michael. In 1953, following his parents’ divorce, he moved with his American-born mother to the United States, where he attended a school for gifted children. At age 13, he returned to Israel and attended Gymnasia Rehavia in Jerusalem. He was active in the Scouts and volunteered with Magen David Adom.
He was drafted into the IDF in November 1970 and served in the Armored Corps, later becoming an officer. During the Yom Kippur War, he fought on the Southern Front. He was killed in action near Quneitra on October 6, 1973, and was buried in the military cemetery on Mt. Herzl.
