Sgt. First Class (res.) Yakir Shmuel Tatelbaum Z"l, 21, of Ma’ale Adumim, served in the 7th Armored Brigade’s 77th Battalion. Born in Michigan, he immigrated to Israel with his family in 2007. After high school and a year at the Ein Prat pre-army academy, Yakir joined the IDF in 2021 and served with distinction in the Armored Corps.
Yakir was called up to reserve duty in April 2024 and fell in northern Gaza on June 28, 2024, during combat operations against Hamas. Known for his kindness, humility, and deep dedication to protecting Israel, he had dreams of volunteering in agriculture, traveling, and donating a kidney, acts of generosity he fulfilled posthumously.
He is survived by his parents, Yehuda and Miriam, and siblings Meir and Techelet. Yakir was buried on Mount Herzl on what would have been his 22nd birthday, leaving a legacy of heroism, courage, and compassion.
