Tiferet Sarah Tratner was born in Jerusalem in 1980, the daughter of Batya z'l and Shlomo Tratner. Batya, who was a nurse, made aliyah in 1967 from the US; Shlomo who was born in Israel, spent years in the US as a rabbi. Tamar, Tiferet's stepmother, is also an American immigrant.
Tiferet attended school in Jerusalem and served in Sherut Leumi at the Gush Katif Petting Zoo, after which she returned to Neve Dekalim in Gush Katif to live. She worked in caring for the elderly and handicapped, and enjoyed taking care of animals, sketching, and writing poetry, On September 24, 2004 - erev Yom Kippur - Tiferet was sitting on the couch in her living room when a Hamas mortar slammed through the roof of her house, fatally wounding her. She was buried shortly before the beginning of Yom Kippur. She is survived by her father and stepmother, four sisters, and one brother.
