Sidney Leizerowitz from Toronto, Canada, joined the English- Speaking Battalion (Mahal) in August 1948. He was killed in the Galilee at Tamra during the Operation Hiram. This operation in the final days of October thoroughly defeated the irregular forces of Fawzi Kaukji's Arab Liberation Army and drovr them out the Galilee. Sidney was about 19 years old and had enlisted just two months earlier.
