Life Story

Shmuel Akiva Weiss was born in 1983 in Elon Moreh in the Shomron to Rabbi Arieh and Tzipporah Weiss. Rabbi Arieh made aliyah from Chicago after high school and married Tzipporah in 1971. Shmuel moved to Kiryat Arba with his family as an infant. He studied in Kiryat Arba, at Yeshivat Merkaz Harav and Machon Meir in Jerusalem, and later at Yeshivat Ayelet Hashachar in Eilat. When he was drafted, he chose to serve a full three years in the Golani Brigade rather than enter the Hesder program. On April 8, 2002, Shmuel was killed in Jenin during fighting as part of Operation Defensive Shield (Chomat Magen). He was buried in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. **The information on this page is part of the “Yizkor” commemoration project by the Ministry of Defense/the ‘La’ad’ website by the National Insurance Institute, in memory of the fallen.
