Shamir Stern was born on January 1, 1969, in the United States to Sheila and Shalom. When Shamir was 10 years old, his family made aliya and lived in Jerusalem. Shamir studied in Maimon Elementary School and then at the Himmelfarb High School. He was active in Bnei Akiva and the Civil Guard.
In January 1987, Shamir was drafted into the IDF and served in the Engineers. He was assigned to operate the base computers, despite his hopes to continue in combat duty. On December 8, 1987, Shamir fell in line of duty. He was buried in the Har Herzl Cemetery in Jerusalem.
