Life Story

Sergeant Major (Res.) Ron Hirschhorn z”l was a devoted son to Rav Kenny and Sara, husband to Miriam, father, teacher, and platoon sergeant in the Karmeli Reserve Brigade. He passed away unexpectedly at the age of 32, after suffering a sudden stroke shortly following more than 400 days of reserve service during Israel’s ongoing conflict. Ron lived in Jerusalem and was deeply committed to his family and community. He is survived by his beloved wife and two young children. During his service, Ron was called up immediately on October 7, 2023, and repeatedly served long periods of reserve duty in both Gaza and Lebanon. Ron was also a well‑loved educator and mentor, teaching at a state religious elementary school in Jerusalem’s Katamon neighborhood. Known for his kindness, humility, and warmth, he had a lasting impact on students, families, and friends alike. Despite his youth and strong health, Ron began to feel unwell while at home during a round of reserve duty and was rushed to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem. After a stroke and subsequent complications, he was hospitalized in critical condition and, despite the best medical efforts, passed away. Ron was laid to rest with honor at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. His family chose to fulfill his wish of donating his organs, giving the gift of life to others. May his memory be a blessing * The information on this page is part of the 'Yizkor' commemoration project by the Ministry of Defense / the 'La'ad' website by the National Insurance Institute, in memory of the fallen.
