Rabbi Zvi Genauer came to Israel in 1952 with his wife Zippora (Feigel Cecille) and their five children. He studied at the Mir Yeshiva. On April 19, 1953 (the eve of Independence Day) a group of Arabs infiltrated into West Jerusalem, entered the Genauer home in Kiryat Moshe, Jerusalem, and shot both Zvi and his niece Deborah Genauer. Zvi was found at a table in the kitchen clutching an open religious book while Deborah was found shot in bed in another room. Three children of Zvi who were sleeping in another room were unharmed. His wife and two other children were in Tel Aviv at the time.
