Naava Applebaum, was born on February 24, 1983 in Jerusalem. She was a graduate of the Horev Girls High School in Jerusalem and was completing two years of Sherut Leumi, National Service, during which she had counseled children from broken homes and worked with Zichron Menahem, a voluntary organization devoted to helping children with cancer. Nava was due to be married on September 10, 2003. David returned early from a terrorism symposium in the United States in order to spend some time with Naava before her wedding. On the evening of September 9th father and daughter were together at Cafe Hillel in Jerusalem when a terrorist bomb in the cafe killed them both. In the Emergency Room at Shaarei Tzedek, the staff feared something was wrong when David did not appear minutes after the news of the attack as he had done so many times before. David and Naava were survived by Debra, wife and mother, and five other children/siblings.
