Joseph "Joe" Berniker was born on December 19, 1954 in the United States (New Orleans?) and immigrated to Israel in 1974. He completed his elementary and high school studies in the United States and then studied Philosophy for one year at College. After immigrating to Israel, he lived on Kibbutz Gesher HaZiv. Yosef was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in early 1975. After completing basic training, he took part in a training course in the Armored Corps unit and was assigned to the Armored Corps unit as a combat soldier and NCO. Very self-disciplined. With a high level of professionalism in his fields of work and personal integrity and good initiatives. Yosef married Sharon and they built their home in Gesher Haziv, and eventually they had three children. Yosef was called for reserve duty and died in a training accident in Tze’elim. He was laid to rest at Kibbutz Gesher Haziv, leaving his wife, three children, Meron, Adam and Golan, parents, three brothers, Gerard, Michael and Anthony, and sister Rosemary.
