Master Sergeant (Res.), Guy Shabtay, a 39-year-old resident of Jerusalem, was a teacher at the Horev school in the capital.
Shabtay was born in Ramat Gan to a secular family and played soccer for Maccabi Tel Aviv and Bnei Yehuda youth teams. His brother Shai told the Ynet news site that his brother spent four years at college in Chicago, where he became religiously observant before returning to Israel and becoming a math and English teacher.
Guy, Coordinator of Religious and Spiritual Services in the 8207th Battalion, 288th (Alon) Brigade, succumbed to his injuries after being severely injured on October 26th, 2024, during combat in southern Lebanon.
He was survived by his wife, Reut, and three daughters aged eight, five and three.
