David Gritz, 24, came to Israel to study Jewish thought at the Hebrew University and the Shalom Hartman Institute after being awarded a Master's degree with distinction from the Sorbonne in Paris. The son of a Croatian mother and an American father, David held dual American and French citizenships. He spent his summers with his parents in Peru, Massachusetts.
Lunching in the Frank Sinatra Cafeteria at Hebrew University's Mt. Scopus campus on July 31, 2002 barely two weeks after his arrival, David was killed when a bomb left in a book bag exploded. David, an only child, is survived by his parents, Nevenka and Norman Gritz. He was buried in Paris.
