Benjamin Halevi Hurwitz was born in 1910 in New York City to Raphael and Esther. After completing his studies at TA and continuing at Rabbeinu Yitzchak Elchanan (later Yeshiva University) Teachers Institute, Benny decided to deepen his Torah studies in Israel. He came in 1928 to the Hebron Yeshiva. His mother and his two sisters came with him to Palestine and they lived in Petach Tikva.
At the end of the year Instead of returning to the US, as expected, he planned on studying for an additional year. On August 24, 1929 18 Menachem Av TARPAT the Arabs in Hebron rioted and killed numerous Jews in the city. They burst into the house of Rabbi Samrik and killed the elderly Rabbi, and all the others in the house who valiantly tried to defend themselves , including Benny. He was 20 years old and was buried in the Hebron cemetery.
