First Sgt. Barak Benjamin Ouzeri, z”l, son of Margalit and Eitan, was born on Shavuot, June 28, 1982 (ו׳ בסיוון תשמ״ב), at Sheba Medical Center in Ramat Gan. Raised in a family deeply connected to the Land of Israel, Torah, and service, he developed a strong commitment to faith, community, and responsibility for others. He fell at the age of 23 while protecting his fellow soldiers in the ruins of Pe’at Sadeh in Gush Katif on September 10, 2005 (ו׳ באלול תשס״ה), one day before the IDF completed its withdrawal from the area.
Barak studied at religious schools in Kiryat Arba, Hashmonaim, and Efrat, and later continued his Torah studies at Yeshivat Sha’alvim and Yeshivat Shavei Chevron. He was known for his dedication to learning, leadership abilities, and desire to inspire and support those around him. As a youth counselor, he guided others with kindness, integrity, and a deep sense of purpose.
Following his studies, Barak chose to serve in a meaningful combat role in the IDF, following in the footsteps of family members who had served in the Golani Brigade. He enlisted on December 5, 2002, and served in the Golani Brigade’s 51st Battalion. He became a commander, where he was known for his professionalism, compassion, and commitment to his soldiers. He led by personal example, setting high standards while caring deeply for those under his command.
Barak is remembered as a devoted son, brother, commander, and friend who dedicated his life to the Jewish people, the State of Israel, and the values he held dear. His legacy of leadership, humility, kindness, and unwavering commitment continues to live on in the memories of those who knew him.
